ASHURA
Ashura (10th of Muharram and the first month of the Muslim calendar) was the day on which Imam Hussain (AS) was martyred in the Battle of Kerbala.

By Muhammad Reza Askari

Ashura is the comprehensive book of love, the firm support and guidance to salvation. It is the glory of Islam, it gives the clear meaning of liberation, honesty, devotion and freedom. Ashura is an expression of all human and divine attributes. If it were not for the religious zeal and devotion of Imam Hussain (AS) Zainab (SA) and Abbas (AS) all for the cause of Allah, history would not have been made. Without Imam Hussain (AS), history would be incomplete and would be made of mention of human valor.

KERBALA WAS A CREDIT TO HISTORY
Karbala shows the depth of love of Allah and the glory of Hussain’s (AS) uprising against tyranny. Karbala, a small battlefield was the scene of the greatest revolution in human history. In the shortest time, at dusk the battlefield told the sad story of bloodshed to be remembered forever as the heart-rendering, tragic event in the field of human conflict. But we always need to hear the story again and again.
His descendant Mahdi (AS), the last savior of mankind said: "O Hussain (AS)! You were submissive to Allah, obeyed your grandfather and father, executed the will of your brother unfurled the banner of religion, crushed the rebels against the Prophet (SAW), you were the righteous guide for the people, swam in the whirlpool of death, put the wrong-doers to the sword, upheld the cause of Allah, defended Islam and Muslims, fought for truth and showed forbearance in hardships.
This was the character of the thirsty martyr of Karbala as described by his holy descendant, the Imam of the Age. Those who are as thirsty as Imam Hussain (AS) for upholding the pure Muhammadan Islam never waver in following the way of Imam Hussain (AS) and in supporting the revolution inspired by the souls of the martyrs, until global oppression is vanquished.

Arbeen (the 40th day after Ashura)
The day the most sanguine battle was fought in the plain of Taff near Kufa to manifest the highest devotion to the cause of Allah. The worthless enemies of truth believed that the great efforts of the Prophet (SAW), all the afflictions of Imam Ali (AS), the endurance of Imam Hassan (AS) and the self-sacrifice of the companions of the Prophet (SAW) were all in vain and would fall into oblivion. Kufa and Damascus became the scene of drunken orgies of blood-thirsty feuds. 500,000 minstrels were singing drunken songs and playing musical instruments in their fine clothes and women folk were also dolled up at the entrance to the city of Damascus.
All believed that the dust of the Karbala battlefield would soon settle and the ground would absorb the blood of the fallen victims. But all of a sudden Zainab (SA) thundered against the cruelty. People were deeply affected and the seeds of uprising and vengeance were sown. Zainab (SA) with her furious words made the enemy become known, in the sight of the people, as the most abominable and horrible fiend.
From that day on, we have become devoted to the memory of Imam Hussain (AS) and his tragic, distressful martyrdom in which he and his companions fell on the battlefield to uphold Islam and the teachings of the Prophet (SAW).
